Manure Removal Systems: Selection and Installation
Manure Management as Part of the Technology
The manure removal system is one of the key technological decisions when designing a pig farm. It determines the sanitary condition of the facilities, ammonia levels in the air, and maintenance costs.
Main Manure Removal Systems
Slatted Floor with Underground Manure Channel The most common solution for industrial farms. Manure accumulates in an underground channel and is removed by gravity flow or pump systems. Advantages: minimal manual labour and good sanitation.
Delta Scrapers A mechanical system for removing manure from solid floors using scrapers. Suitable for finishing sections with high-density housing. Simple to maintain and low-cost.
Hydraulic Flushing Used in large complexes with a centralised liquid manure storage system. High throughput, but significant water consumption and complex infrastructure.
Manure Storage and Processing
Liquid manure is stored in lagoons or closed tanks. Closed tanks offer better environmental performance and the possibility of biogas collection. Liquid manure is a valuable organic fertiliser that can become an additional source of income.
Environmental Requirements
Pig farm construction in Ukraine is regulated by standards for the protection of groundwater and soil. The manure storage system design must comply with sanitary norms and pass an environmental assessment.
Conclusion
A properly designed manure removal system reduces maintenance costs, improves sanitation, and reduces the farm's environmental footprint. We design systems according to the technology brief and current legislative requirements.
